Diversity and inclusion

We believe that diverse teams will deliver the best outcomes for women's healthcare and we strive to be an inclusive employer, fostering a culture and workplace where all of our staff can thrive and be their authentic selves. We are therefore looking for candidates whose backgrounds, experience and identity enhance the diversity of our existing team. We aim to achieve a workforce that is diverse in age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, race, religious belief, sexual orientation, social background and any other forms of identity.

We are particularly encouraging applications from underrepresented groups at the College such as those from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and those with a disability. To find out more, please see our Diversity Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy.

We have an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee that reports to our board alongside a working group made up of staff across RCOG including the people team and our executive leadership team. Both the committee and working group lead on recommendations for improvements as part of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and action plan.

Staff networks

LGBTQ+ Staff Network

The LGBTQ+ Staff Network provides the opportunity to share experiences and have input on business decisions and their potential effects on LGBTQ+ staff at the RCOG. Membership is open to all members of staff who wish to be allies and support its work, whether or not they identify as LGBTQ+.

Parents Network

The College’s Parents’ Network supports staff who have or will have childcare responsibilities. The network’s aim is to offer peer-to-peer support and to share, discuss and champion ways for the RCOG to become a more inclusive employer for working parents.

Disability and Long-Term Conditions Staff Network

The Disability and Long-Term Conditions Staff Network exists to support College staff living with long-term physical and mental health conditions and disabilities. It does this by providing the opportunity for staff to share experiences, provide support and signposting, develop networking opportunities for members, provide the opportunity to raise issues and have input on business decisions that affect staff who identify as having a disability or long-term health condition.

Racial Equality Staff Network

The Racial Equality Staff Network has been formed to support staff at the College by allowing them to share experiences and mutual support, raise awareness on issues affecting staff from racial and ethnic minorities, and influence decision making and working practices at the College. The network aims to provide an opportunity to raise awareness of issues experienced by staff with a minority ethnicity, and to advocate for greater inclusivity and proportional representation at our most senior levels.

All our Staff networks have been established by our staff, for staff.

Our inclusive practices

To ensure that everyone has access to opportunities and feels reflected at RCOG, we are committed to fair and inclusive processes. This includes being a Committed Member of Inclusive Employers, an ENEI member and being accredited as Disability Confident Committed Employer. We use a system called applied, which helps us to remove bias from the selection process by anonymising applications and making hiring decisions based purely on skills and creating an even playing field for all job applicants.
